Credit unions are unique financial institutions. With a minimum deposit into a share savings account, an individual may become a member of the credit union. Since credit unions are cooperative organizations, membership makes that individual an owner of the credit union.

Credit unions have no stockholders. The leadership of the credit union comes from the staff and volunteers who are elected by the membership at the credit union's annual meeting.

Prairie View Federal Credit Union has three different areas in which a member may serve.

The first area is the Board of Directors. They are responsible for setting the credit union policies.

The second area is the Credit Committee. Their main function is approval of loan requests.

The third area is the Supervisory Committee. They are responsible for the internal controls of the credit union.
